Exploring Mad TV Game: A Detailed Map of All Floors and Their Roles
If you’re a fan of MadTV and want to optimize your gameplay, understanding the layout of the building and the functions of each room is essential. In this guide, we’ll dive into a detailed floor map, exploring the purpose of every room and how you can strategically use them to gain an edge in the game. Whether you're planning your productions, managing contracts, or navigating events, this comprehensive guide has got you covered.
Room Types in MadTV
In MadTV, the building consists of different types of rooms and floors, each with unique roles. Broadly, these can be categorized into four main types:
1. Broadcasting Floors (MadTV, FunTV, SunTV)
Each broadcasting floor is essentially a mirror of the others and includes the following rooms:
- Office: Where your character operates.
- News Room: Used to gather and broadcast news.
- Boss’s Office: Where you interact with the station manager.
- Library: A repository for stored content.
Additionally, all networks start with a Studio Size 1, which can later be upgraded to Size 2 or 3 for better production capabilities. We’ll dive deeper into studios in a later section.
2. Essential Rooms for Gameplay
These are rooms you’ll use frequently to manage critical aspects of the game:
- Movie Agency: As a TV station, you’ll need movies and series to broadcast. This is where you buy and sell them.
- Advertising Agency: Sign advertising contracts here to earn money for your station.
- Real Estate Agency: Buy or sell production studios to create original shows and series.
- Supermarket: Purchase two important items here:
- Gifts for Betty: To strengthen your relationship.
- Cast and Scenery: For your station’s original productions.
3. Decorative Rooms
These rooms don’t serve an immediate purpose but can be destroyed later in the game to make room for production studios.
4. Event-Affected Rooms
Certain rooms can be impacted by in-game events, which can be strategically exploited:
- Explosion Threats: These affect the Duban Embassy and F.D. Embassy rooms. When you see news about a bomb threat in either of these rooms, it’s a sign you can use the event to free up studio space. Change the descriptive signs of these rooms in the Info Board room to turn them into available studios.
- Movie Agency Implosion: This is a renovation event that temporarily disables the Movie Agency for the rest of the day. However, you can repurpose this event by swapping the Movie Agency's sign in the Info Board room to another room you wish to free up. You’ll know about this event by speaking with the doorman.
Both events are excellent opportunities to repurpose unused rooms into valuable studio space for your productions.
Color-Coded Room Map
Below is a floor map with color-coded rooms to help you navigate the building effectively:
- Red: Rooms belonging to MadTV.
- Green: Rooms belonging to FunTV.
- Light Blue: Rooms belonging to SunTV.
- Orange: Essential rooms with important gameplay functions.
- Yellow: Rooms affected by events, such as the Duban and F.D. Embassy. If destroyed, they become free studios.
- Purple: Rooms where you can check ongoing events.
- White: Unused rooms that can be converted into studios.
First Floor and Second Floor
The first floor is where you start each day. It features two key rooms:
Porter
The friendly doorman always greets you with a smile. Behind him, you’ll often spot a half-empty beer bottle on the counter. The porter plays a crucial role by informing you if the Movie Agency is scheduled for implosion that day. Make it a habit to stop by and say hello at the start of your workday to check for this important event.
Info Board
This room houses a panel displaying the names of all the building's rooms. These names can be swapped to serve your strategic goals, typically for two purposes:
Unlocking New Studios
If you learn that an attack is planned on one of the game’s embassies or that the Movie Agency is about to be imploded, you can swap the affected room with an unused or less critical one.- Example: Replace the Movie Agency with the Laundry Room.
- Another Example: Swap Free Duban with Bio-Control and wait for the event to unfold.
Sabotaging Competitors
You can also use this feature to disrupt your rival networks. For example, swap the room marked for implosion with a key room from a competitor’s station. Here’s what happens:- Office: If the office is destroyed, your competitor won’t be able to manage their channel’s schedule for the day. Additionally, they’ll incur a $50,000 repair cost.
- Library: Your competitor will lose one of the movies stored in their library and face a $50,000 repair cost. The library will also be inaccessible to them for the rest of the day.
- Studio: The affected studio becomes free, available for use.
- News Room: Your competitor won’t be able to schedule news for the day and will face a $50,000 repair cost.
- Boss’s Office: While the cost is $50,000, this disruption seems to have no additional consequences.
Remember that the other two competitors from rival stations can also perform these sabotages. Stay alert if you notice room nameplates where they shouldn't be in the elevator—this is a clear sign they are making their move.
By strategically leveraging the Info Board, you can either expand your production capacity or gain a competitive advantage over rival broadcasters. Mastering this mechanic is key to your success in MadTV.
Laundry Room
One of the useless rooms in the game. Entering this room reveals a quirky scene: a man diving into a giant washing machine that looks like an underwater world.
Supermarket
This is where you can buy gifts for Betty and hire actors or purchase set decorations for your shows and series in production. Access the shopping menu by clicking on the guy smoking. However, the set items and actors will only be available if you have an active shopping list—this happens when you start the production of a show or series and request the shopping list from the studio director.
Third Floor and Fourth Floor
Psychiatrist
A useless room where a quirky individual is attempting to hypnotize you.
Bio-Control
Another useless room with an odd and indescribable setup inside.
Anti-Smoking
A useless room where people try to quit smoking by obsessing over sweets and candies.
Tobacco Lobby
Another useless room, ironically located right next to the Anti-Smoking room. It features giant cigarettes as part of its decor.
Fifth and Sixth Floors
Fifth Floor:
The Mad-TV floor. It features Archie’s Office, Mad-TV News, the Boss’s Office, and the Archives/Library.
Mad-TV Studio
Size 1 studio. At the start of the game, it belongs to Mad-TV. It can be unlocked through sabotage or after Archie is eliminated from the game (due to poor station performance).
Screenplay Agency
In this room, you purchase screenplays for shows and series. Each screenplay has a studio size requirement (Size 1, 2, or 3), and you can only produce the program if you have a studio of that size. No returns are accepted.
Seventh and Eighth Floor
Movie Agency
One of the most important rooms in the game. Here, you can buy and sell movies, series, and cultural programs. To purchase, select an item from the table (which looks like VHS tapes) and place it in your green briefcase. By clicking on the man behind the table, you gain access to more expensive films, series, and live events. If bought, these items will wait until the end of the day for a higher offer. If yours is the highest, the item will be added to your collection the next day.
Free Duban Embassy
A decorative room, but one that is affected by game events.
Eighth Floor
The Fun-TV floor. It features Brian’s Office, Fun-TV News, the Boss’s Office, and the Archives/Library.
Ninth and Tenth Floors
Fun-TV Studio
A Size 1 studio. At the start of the game, it belongs to Fun-TV. The same rule applies as with the other Level 1 studio from the rival station.
Duban Embassy
A decorative room that can also be affected by game events.
Tenth Floor:
Advertising Agency
This is the room where you sign advertising contracts. In short, it’s where you’ll "earn your bread." The contracts have audience requirements and program type specifications. Here’s an example of an advertising contract from Aeroswift:
In this contract, we can see the following details:
- Compensation: $180,000
- Penalty (for failing to meet the contract by the deadline): $180,000
- Minimum audience: 1.0 million (the percentage refers to the total reach of your TV transmitters)
- Number of ads: 6 ads within 3 days
Some contracts may have additional prerequisites or conditions, such as "do not air the ad during Lives, Show, or Love Story," as seen below. Others may specify that the ad should only be aired during certain programs, like action films or comedies.
Sun-TV Studio
Level 1 studio. At the start of the game, it belongs to Sun-TV. It can be unlocked through sabotage or after Churchill is eliminated from the game (due to poor station performance).
Eleventh and Twelfth Floors
Eleventh Floor:
This is the Sun-TV floor, just like the floors of the other stations.
Twelfth Floor
Real Estate Agency
Here, you can rent new studios. Each time you rent a studio, the price increases. You access the rental panel by clicking on the frame on the wall in the lower-left corner of the screen.
When you hover over the rooms, you can see the studio size, whether it's available, and the daily rental price.
Peace League
A decorative room with no functional purpose. A man, seemingly a visionary, sits behind a desk with a giant hippie symbol in the room.
Thirteenth Floor
This floor only has Betty's office. She is the woman you must marry to win the game. Schedule the programs she likes (or not), buy her presents gradually, and once the relationship bar is full, purchase the Honeymoon trip (which costs 1 million) to win the game.
